FAQ

Q: Do I need any special travel documents to attend 5SCWC in TorontoCanada?
A: You may need special travel documents to visit Canada depending on your country of origin. See Citizenship and Immigration Canada for visa requirements.

Q: Are you providing invitation letters?
A: Yes, please register online and request your invitation letter (under Contact Information) or contact the Congress Office – JPdL by email at: sciencecentreworldcongress@jpdl.com to request an invitation letter. Registration is required.

Q: If I am a presenter, do I have to register?
A: Yes. ALL participants must pay the applicable registration fees, including workshop speakers, paper presenters, session moderators and congress committee members.

Q: Can I pay after I attend the congress?
A: No. Attendance to the congress will not be allowed until payment is received in full.

Q: Can I register and pay onsite?
A: Yes. 5SCWC accepts checks, cash, VISA, MasterCard and American Express. Registration badges will not be issued until full payment is received.

Q: What’s the last day for congress registration?
A: The last day for congress registration via the online form is a week prior to the Congress. On-site registration will be available starting June 15, 2008 at 14:30 (time subject to change).

Q: Do you need volunteers at the Congress?
A: There will probably be volunteers needed for the congress. Please send us your name and contact information at sciencecentreworldcongress@jpdl.com. We will keep your name and contact info and contact you when we will plan that aspect of the congress.

Q: Is there a fee if I decide to cancel my registration? What is the refund policy for congress registration cancellations?
A: Before April 11, 2008 there is full refund less administrative cost of $50 CAD. Between April 12 and May 9, 2008 a 50% refund is offered, and after May 9 there are no refunds (including social program and optional tours). To qualify, delegates must notify the Congress Office – JPdL of the cancelled registration in writing (email, fax, post). Refunds will be made after the Congress.

Q: What is the recommended attire for the congress?
A: Congress attire will be casual and comfortable. Please note, however, that Toronto weather in June is typically mild

Q: What if I’d like to bring a guest?
A:  Tickets for accompanying persons are available for congress social activities and for the Science North Program.  You can pay for your guest tickets in advance.  Additional tickets for closing dinner and Science North Program can be purchased at the Congress depending on availability).

Q: I have special dietary needs. How can I request special meals?
A: We are happy to honour your special dietary needs. Please indicate your request on your online registration form. All special dietary requests must be made prior to the congress itself; requests made on site may not be honoured.

Q: What is the weather like in Toronto in June?
A: The climate in Toronto is temperate, comparable to cities such as New York City, London and Paris. During June, expect high humidity with temperatures rising to 24º C (75º F) during the day.

Q: How do I get into the city from the airport?
A: Toronto Pearson International Airport is located 27 km (17 miles) northwest of Toronto. There are many ways to travel to and from Pearson Airport--public transit, inter-city buses, shuttle services or taxis and limousines. Buses link travellers to Toronto’s transport system. Taxis charges from the airport vary upon your destination (approximately $46 to downtown). The Airport Express Bus (www.torontoairportexpress.com) offers shuttle service to selected downtown hotels for CAD$16.45/one-way. Q: How do I exchange money at the airport?
A: International currency exchange services are available at Pearson International Airport as well as at banks and currency exchange outlets located throughout the city.

Q: Is it possible to use US$ for taxis?
A: The money system in Canada is based on Canadian dollars (CAD$). US dollars are accepted in many establishments in Toronto and by taxi drivers, although change from transactions will be provided in Canadian currency and exchange rates will differ with each merchant.

Q: Where is the MTCC located?
A: The Metro Toronto Convention Centre is located at 255 Front Street West, two blocks east of York Street and adjacent to the CN Tower and Rogers Centre. The entrance to the MTCC North Building, site of congress registration desks, is at 255 Front Street West.

Q: Where is the registration counter located at the MTCC and when is it open?
A: The Registration desks are located on Level 100, North Building. The desks are open at the following times (hours subject to change):
