Update - February 2, 2007
A letter from Lesley Lewis
CEO, Ontario Science Centre
Dear Colleagues,
The Ontario Science Centre, in Toronto, Canada is delighted to be your host for the 5th Science Centre World Congress. We are also thrilled to be launching this official website for 5SCWC.
Our Science Centre and our dynamic, diverse city will offer delegates a unique milieu in which to explore the theme of Science Centres as Agents of Change – locally, nationally and internationally. Together we will reflect on the opportunities and challenges facing our science centres, build networks and exchange experiences. And with special sessions at Science North in Sudbury, delegates can experience the dramatic range of urban and natural environments.
The International Program Committee has met three times since 2005. Our current priorities are selecting and confirming the keynote speakers and developing the program for the congress based on the three sub-themes - Planet Earth: Living On it, Changing It, Sustaining It; Citizen Engagement – Increasing Engagement with Science and World Issues; and the Role of Science Centres in Building the Future. The IPC is also in the process of inviting bids to host the 6th Science Centre World Congress which will take place in 2011 in Africa. The call for session proposals is included now on the website and I encourage you to start developing your ideas to submit before the deadline of April 1, 2007.
We are making a strong commitment to environmental sustainability by presenting a Green Congress in Toronto. Further details will follow as we define fully what this includes. In the meantime, you will not be receiving paper mail outs. There will be no printed announcements or program information. All congress information will be available on this website. Check the website often for news and developments on the 5th Science Centre World Congress.
As we build on the success of previous World Congresses, we look forward to welcoming the world in 2008.
Warm regards,
Lesley Lewis
